Description
Tchaikovsky’s ballet, Swan Lake, written in 1875-76, was not initially a success. How sad he is not here to know it is performed at Christmas time all over the world! In Act 1, the Prince is celebrating his birthday with friends dancing and merry-making to this Valse. Hyosang’s arrangement is a faithful transcription to the orchestral score, weaving the textures and tones of handbells and handchimes carrying the melody with the support of the typical waltz accompaniment. Perfectly placed malleted notes, dynamics, and shakes add to the charm. The weaving of the treble eighth-note passages in and around the melody may require some thought given to assignments. It is rated Level 3+ although played at tempo, the higher treble may ring at Level 4.
This will be a fabulous addition to your concert repertoire!
Note: the sound file is recorded ~ :64 (pulsed in 1) which is more in tempo when the ballet is performed. However, stand-alone orchestral recordings often play this about 10 clicks faster!
