Maelstrom

Description

The definition of Maelstrom – “a powerful, often violent whirlpool; restless or tumultuous” – also describes this intensely exciting original composition. Introductory rubato chord progressions are suddenly replaced with intense mixed meter driving rhythms. Dynamics suddenly change from fortissimo to piano, and back again. “Maelstrom” was composed for the 15th International Handbell Symposium, Liverpool, UK, and premiered by the United States All-Star Choir.
