Description
This Leroy Anderson favorite, originally composed for orchestra, has been nicely arranged for handbell quartet by H. Park. It has been called “one of the wittiest and most clever pieces in the orchestral repertoire,” and was written to include a physical typewriter as a solo percussion instrument! This makes it perfect for handbells! It is mostly malleted throughout, with ‘rung’ notes nicely placed for contrast. It is scored with stems-up and stems-down as suggested assignments, but quartets should feel to adapt for their own group. Clearly, the tempo that works for strings cannot be effectively used for malleted or rung bells; please adapt the tempo that works for your group.
